Lineman’s Rodeo – (ro-dee-o, or ro-day-o, ro-de-od, ro-de-oing, ro-de-os) – A competition in Journeyman, Apprentice, and team Lineman skills but not totally limited to linemen.  Tree Trimmers, and equipment operators, as well as the general public, and children may compete in some of the events.  A family oriented gathering to watch linemen, tree trimmers, and equipment operators demonstrate their unique and specialized skills in a competition.

The rodeo grounds are between the state capitol city of Helena Montana and Great Falls Montana on Interstate 15.  Please see the detailed driving and area maps for further driving maps and instructions.  Latitude and Longitude is provided for those of you who wish to enter it into your GPS navigation system but the driver will have to remember to take Exit 250.  Pelican Point is located:

From Great Falls Montana
Approximately 35 minutes South of Great Falls,
just 5 minutes South of Cascade Montana

35 miles South on Interstate 15 - Take Exit 250, Turn Left over the Interstate and Turn Right (South) on the Frontage Road.   You'll see the large white tent, and a bunch of power poles along the Missouri River.  A little ways down the frontage road you'll see the Pelican Point Fishing Access sign and almost directly across from that you'll see the entrance to the rodeo grounds with a pole archway with linemen climbing on it.  Click on a picture below to see a larger copy.

From Helena Montana
Approximately 45 minutes North of Helena

You have two choices when traveling North from Helena Montana.  Approximately 45 miles North on Interstate 15 - Take Exit 247, Hardy Creek Exit, Turn Right and then Left (North) on the frontage road approximately 2 miles.  You'll pass Pelican Point boat launch and fishing access (on your right) and it's just a little bit farther North.  An added note, Exit 247 is also right where Tower Rock State Park is located.

48 miles North on Interstate 15 - Take Exit 250, Turn Right and go (South) on the Frontage Road.  You'll see the large white tent, and a bunch of power poles along the Missouri River.  A little ways down the frontage road you'll see the Pelican Point Fishing Access sign and almost directly across from that you'll see the entrance to the rodeo grounds with a pole archway with linemen climbing on it.

For detailed driving and area maps, click here.

RV parking and tent camping is available on the South rodeo grounds.  Space is limited and is offered on a first come first serve basis.

If you've never attended a Lineman's rodeo before, you're in for a real treat.  You'll see lineman operating equipment that they use in their trade and climbing wooden poles and structures performing different events.  Check out the event section of the web site to find out more about the rodeo events. There's food, fun, merchandise, raffles, auctions, and entertainment for the entire family.  Bring a friend this year and expose them to the lineman's rodeo.  They'll get an education and gain a new appreciation for the lineman trade.

You may view the 2009 Rodeo Schedule on the events page also or if you like, click on the link below and download a 2009 rodeo schedule of your own.

Every year we have a band come out and provide entertainment for your evening listening, and dancing pleasure.

The Sliptones
Rock 'n' Soul Band

The Sliptones is a four-piece "rock 'n' soul" band based in Great Falls Montana

Fronted by Rick Tryon on guitar and vocals and Sheree Dansereau on keyboards and vocals, the band has been performing a wide variety of venues in north central Montana for the past 15 years. Drummer Matt Dallamura and bassist Pete Swanson round out the band.

The Sliptones' play list is dedicated to the venerable rock 'n' roll its members were raised on.  Artists covered span the Rolling Stones and CCR to Bonnie Raitt and Aretha Franklin to Van Morrison and Neil Diamond–and many points in between. Simply put, it's party music with no pretense that particularly, but not exclusively, appeals to the baby boomer generation.

We would like to take this opportunity for a very special thank you to Skip Verworn from The Cat Rental Store, Tractor and Equipment Company in Helena Montana for taking on the pro backhoe event coordinator position and donating this year's backhoes, mini-excavators and skid steers along with numerous other rodeo support items.  Make sure and visit his company links below.

The Montana Lineman's Rodeo Association would especially like to thank our host at Pelican Point and all the communities in the area for their hospitality and support.  We also wish to thank all of the sponsors and all of the volunteers who work so hard to make the rodeo a success.  Unfortunately, the names are just too numerous to list.  However, you know who you are, so give yourself a pat on the back.  We sincerely appreciate everyone's help and support.

Please show our host how much we appreciate the facilities by leaving the area cleaner than when you arrived!  Please put garbage in the garbage cans.
