Rodeo
Events
In addition to the lineman and apprentice events, the rodeo
offers the Pro Backhoe Rodeo, Tree Trimmers Rodeo, Novice Backhoe Events,
Ladies' Pole Climb, and children's games.
Events are as follows:
Journeyman Lineman Events:
Hurt Man Rescue -
The object is to rescue the "injured lineman" as quickly as possible from a pole
using all safety procedures and pole-top rescue techniques.
Speed Climb -
The object is to climb and descend a 45-foot pole as
quickly and smoothly as possible. This is the only event where you get to
show-off your speed. The climber will put an egg in their mouth in
order to measure smoothness.
Mystery Event #1 - Well if we told you it wouldn't be a mystery
now would it?
Mystery Event #2 - Same as above.
Apprentice Events:
Hurt Man Rescue - The
object is to rescue the "injured lineman" as quickly as possible from a pole
using all safety procedures and pole-top rescue techniques.
Speed Climb -
The object is to climb and descend a 45-foot pole as
quickly and smoothly as possible. This is the only event where you get to
show-off your speed.

Mystery Event #1 - Is this beginning to sound familiar?
Mystery Event #2 - Noticing a pattern maybe?

Mystery Event Challenge - Three man apprentice team - $10.00
per team member for entry, $30.00 per team. Winning team takes all.
Written Test

Tree Trimmer Events:
Hurt Man Rescue - The
object is to rescue the "injured lineman" as quickly as possible from a pole
using all safety procedures and pole-top rescue techniques.
Five Pole Flag Touch - You
guessed it. Climb all five poles and touch the flags at the top.
Journeyman Swing - Climb a pole, tie yourself off,
and swing to the next pole. A Tarzan yell might just earn you extra points
on this one.
Falling Event - Tree
falling that is. Definitely going to hear the word T I M B E R !!!! and we
aren't kidding either - look out below.
Mystery Event #1 - Have to keep your curiosity going after all.
Scoring: Hurt Man Rescue, Five Pole Flag Touch,
Journeyman Swing, and Tree Falling Events are timed events. The
contestant with the least amount of time is the winner. The Mystery
Event gives the contestant a chance to take 30 seconds off their time should
they win the event. This event will be explained in full at the rodeo.

Pro & Novice Backhoe Events:
The Backhoe Rodeo event will start about two hours after the
Lineman's Rodeo and end about an hour after the end of the Lineman's Rodeo.
This will be awarded for first, second, and third place events, so practice
your hoe skills and have fun competing! Various other equipment may be
available in the Backhoe Rodeo event also such as the mini-excavator and
skid steer. Keep an eye on this area as we'll receive updates from
this year's Backhoe Rodeo Event Coordinator.
You're just going to have to see these. Both pro's
and novice will compete in different backhoe and equipment event categories.

Ladies Pole Climb Event:
The
ladies pole climb is a tradition at the Montana Lineman's Rodeo. Our
goal is to have a fun event, with as much participation as possible.
This event is for amateurs only! Professional
female lineman are encouraged to participate in the team or individual
events.
The pole climb is a timed event. Participants climb up
the pole, ring a bell at the pole top, and descend the pole. Timing
begins when the participant begins to climb the pole, and the time ends when
the participant returns to the ground. A fall protection device is
attached to the pole and the participant to prevent fall injuries.
All participants should have a pair of long pants and boots
(no sandals allowed).
All other equipment will be provided. Fore more information, please
contact Chris Caldwell, Coordinator, Helena, Montana.
Safety is our main goal in all of our rodeo events. We
want this to be a fun event, not a dangerous one.

Various Children Activities
